6809 Assembly Language Programming on the TRS-80
Color Computer
(Using M.E.S.S. as the Vehicle)
By: Robert ([email protected])
It has been a VERY long time since I have done any assembly language
programming on the CoCo. My last serious project was in 1993 or 1994 -
It was an Assembly Language Program that allowed Color Computer users to
save their graphics designs in ".MGE" format. It wasn't a very difficult
program to create as that particular format was simply a Run Length Encoded
type (RLE - not very efficient - it can actually increase the size of a
file). Then, after a few years of absence from the CoCo (1998), I
received a letter from Harold J. Moenich, expressing a need for a simple
program to allow his Speech-Sound Pak to speak Telewriter 128 files. I
pulled out the old CoCo equipment and hashed together a quick assembly
language program that linked into the PRINTER RAM-HOOK and thus, allowed
all text destined for the printer to be spoken via the Speech/Sound Cartridge.
Most all of my previous work including the above programs have long since
vanished along with all of my CoCo equipment. I think it was all abducted
by aliens, but Mulder wouldn't investigate. Regardless of what actually
happened to all of my stuff, I have recently, via eBay
, re-acquired much of the CoCo stuff that I once owned. It is my desire
to recreate, not only the above programs, but some entirely new software
as well. As such, I will have to RE-LEARN
THE 6809!
The above being the case, I thought I would allow the rest of the CoCo
Community to join me in this journey. You will witness my mistakes, triumphs
and general stupidity! Care to join
me? If So, Then CLICK
